Hello, just wanted to say hi to everyone. I'm new to the group. I put a deposit on a Cub Cadet 7272 today and hopefully will pick it up sometime this week. Sure hope I made a good choice in this tractor. The tractor was garage kept, second owner, and used very little for cutting grass and maintaining a gravel road. The owner kept very good care of the tractor and has all the maintainence records of service. Heck, he even gave me a spare oil filter and air filter with owners manual and service manual. The tractor has only 375 hours of use and looks to be in excellent condition,no leaks, no clutch wear and strong pto. I purchased for $7800. Machinerylink.com listed a value of $8800-$8100. Anyway, I just wanted to say hi to everyone in the group.

I believe that is the 2 wheel drive model and I think you will have good luck with it. I have a 7234 (4WD Gear) and it is an excellent tractor. Mitsubishi Engine and drive train. By the way you'll find the filters are a little expensive for it. The oil filter, $12-15 unless you try a NAPA for $7 or so, the Hyd filter is about a $50 one and if I'm not mistaken the airfilter is in the $50-60 range. Some of the new Mahindras have the same frame and many of the components only in Red. They don't have the 27HP engine anymore, I think they bumped it up to 30HP. Thanks Dave for the warm welcome. I just signed up for the premium service and look forward to reading and posting. I'll keep you informed of my new tractor purchase when I pick up my tractor.You are indeed correct, its a 2wd model with front whell weights and fluid added to the rear tires. I plan on using this tractor for road maintainence and grass cutting. I do have some dirt and gravel to move and plan to purchase a grader box. Just wondering how whell this tractor will pull not having 4wd. I have lots of small pine trees lying on the ground from my land clearing that have to be moved to any area for burning. Am wondering if I should purchase a boom pole for such moving?

Larry, I don't have any experience with a boom pole so I'm not sure what it will do for you. You'll probably find the tractor isn't quite as versatile as a 4wd would be but I'm sure you will make the best of it. If you are on flat ground and pulling it ought to do fairly well but if you get off on a hill/slope you may find the 2WD won't do what you want. My 7234 weighs around 3300# with the FEL on it and I don't have filled tires. I would guess your tractor would be around 3000 pounds with the weights you describe. ....

Dave, my 6 acres of land is fairly flat and sure hope this tractor works for me. I purchased this tractor mainly for taking care of 1500ft of road frontage and maintaining my gravel driveway. I really got shafted from the contractor that cleared my land and built my house. He left me with a big ole mess. Tons of dirt and piles and piles of wood surround my house. Would have been nice to locate a good 4wd fel, however, good tractors in my area are rare. I've been looking for a good used tractor for several months and have found most to be either overpriced or wore out. Would have been nice to be able to purchase a new tractor, however, my budget didn't allow for one. I looked at some of the major brand tractors and found most 4wd,30hp's priced around 12000, add another 3000 for fel. Oh well, a man has to know his limitations of his tractor, lol. I suppose I should listen to my wife and just go out and rent a 555 and finish up this mess.

I have the 7275 which is a 4WD with hydro. I love it! You should be fine without 4WD for mowing and with weights, you should be ok for grading. Mine is nearly 10 years old with about 800 hrs. ....

Larry like yooperpete said, that tractor should do a good job for you and the price certainly sounded right. I found the same thing in looking for tractors. I looked at a lot of used ones off and on for at least a couple of years. People advertised that the tractor was always kept undercover/in a barn yet they would be very faded and well worn. One Kubota I called on the owner said it was in real good shape. When I drove up and saw the busted out headlights and bent brush guards, etc. I thought I would wait awhile longer. A JD that was kept in a garage and "always washed" before her husband put it away, was still wet when I looked at it. It too was a little rougher than I thought it should be. So if you found a good clean tractor you're happy with so are we! ....

LArry, enjoy your new addition to your garage family. 2wd will be fine. I ran that way for 2 years before a 15" wet snowfall did me in. A 4wd may be able to do a tad more, but a 2wd in good shape and a good price is not a bad thing. You'll learn the limits and will adjust. HEck, spending time outside working on your place is a great activity. The 2wd may take a just a touch longer, but time is on your side so enjoy it! ....

Good tractor
I have the 7274 (new since 95)and other than a starter relay issue it has been a great compact
I put Rotella synthetic in it as per people on this board & I run a 72" rear mower & a 60" rear blower & have about 650 hrs on it wouldn't part with it-4 wheel drive amazes me but you should like yours also

Hey Larry,
Cadets must be good tractors, I've been looking for some time at tractors,(all makes and models), and this is the first Cadet I come across. Seems that most that purchase them keep them. The tractor I'm purchasing is spotless, looks new for a 95 model and has only 360 hours. Pretty sure he hasn't painted it as there is some minor fading. The gentleman I purchase from only used it for grass cutting and keeping up his driveway, hehe,( told he used it for planting a garden once that the crows and deer ate up), and purchased from a Cadet dealer with 50 hours on it in 95. Told me the original buyer that purchase new wasn't happy with it and wanted a bigger tractor. The owner is selling it due to health issues. Anyway, thanks for the post. I'll keep the forum updated once I pick it up this weekend.
